Talking to media persons, IGP, Bhopal Zone, Upendra Jain said the accused were nabbed while trying to sell the stolen guns. On June 10, the accused stole 8 guns from the Berasia forest office and distributed 2 guns each among themselves. They hide the guns at different places.

The four accused were identified as Ramswaroop Singh (20), lal Miyan Khan (27), Sonu Gurjar (20) and Inder Gurjar (20). Ramswaroop, Sonu and Inder are relatives while lal Miayan used to work for them.

A few days back, Gurjar was detained for questioning regarding theft of forest wood and when Inder went to facilitate his release, he saw the forest officials keeping the guns.

The guns are highly sophisticated American guns and each gun costs around Rs 1 lakh.

Although the police have recovered the guns, 80 cartridges stolen along with the guns are still to be recovered.

The Conservator of Forest, Bhopal, Krishna Murthy said that a forest guard had been suspended after the incident while two forest guards on contract were relieved of their duty with immediate effect.
