Highest number of 5,511 cases were reported in Bhopal range with the State level Woman Helpline 1090, Jabalpur range came second in the reporting of cases by reporting 1,799 while Indore range reported around 1,671 cases of crime against woman with the woman helpline in the year 2013.
Aiming to provide quick assistance to women complaints, State level Woman Helpline 1090 which was started on January 1, 2013 has proved beneficial and achieved its target in the past one year. The woman helpline received 14,962 in the year 2013 and out of the total received complaints around 500 cases have been registered in different districts. Woman complainants have complaint about incidents and crimes to the 1090.
Maximum numbers of complaints were lodged with crime against women using mobile phones which were around 7,243. Complaints of physical assault were second in the list as around 2941 complaints of physical assault was reported. Significant number of cases of ‘eve -teasing’ were reported at the woman help line in the past whole year. Around 801 cases of ‘eve-teasing’ were reported in the year 2013. Harassment cases were also reported in huge number. A total number of 799 cases of harassment, 491 cases of threatening and 1,737 other cases were reported in the year 2013.
For speedy investigation a special ‘technical team’ was formed to investigate cyber crimes and crime using mobile phone. The team used to locate the miscreants harassing girl students and woman and nab them with the help of the local police. Woman helpline has provided some of its successfully solved cases in which the helpline came to rescue the victims.
Kripalchandra Khatri of Sehora Jabalpur was nabbed after Mahila police personnel posted at police state headquarters reported receiving obscene messages. It was found that the accused was also involved in messaging Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan using the same mobile number. A case under section 354 B of the IPC and section 66 of Information Technology Act was registered.
