The National law Institute University, Bhopal, hosted the opening ceremony of its annual moot court competition — ‘4th NlIU-Juris Corp National Corporate law Moot Court Competition 2013’. The chief guest of the occasion was Justice RC Mishra, former judge, Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The event was also graced by Veena Shivaramakrishnan, partner, Juris Corp along with SS Singh, Director NlIU, Bhopal, and Kondaiah J, faculty in-charge MCA. SS Singh in his inaugural speech stressed upon the importance of mooting for a law student and further encouraged them by saying that learning by doing this is the best way to learn and felicitated Justice Mishra.

Following Singh, Veena Shivaramakrishnan talked at length about the drafting of the moot problem this year and how Juris Corp as a policy tries to frame moot problems in consonance with current legal corporate issues every year. She also drove home the point that Juris Corp as a law firm doesn’t visit law schools across the country for placement and recruits only through pre placement offers and for the same NlIU in association with Juris Corp also organised a paper presentation competition, the winners of which would be granted internship with Juris Corp.

Justice RC Mishra highlighted the qualities of a good mooter with regard to communication skills , understanding of legal issues and courtroom etiquettes. He also emphasised the holistic development which mooting provides for a law student by enhancing his advocacy and dispute resolution skills. Justice Mishra thereafter declared the moot court competition open. The vote of thanks was delivered by Kondaiah J.

Over the course of next two days 34 law universities from across the country would be competing for top honours. The total prize money for the moot court competition is Rs 1.10 lakh that includes prizes for winning and runners up team, best speaker, best researcher and best memorial. The moot court is being organised by the Moot Court Association of NlIU, Bhopal, along with the student community of the university.
