4000 doctors on mass leave today

Nearly 4000 doctors of government hospitals in the state will go on mass leave on Wednesday even as the government has invoked Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) against the doctors. The doctors are demanding the State government to implement 4-level pay grade.

The decision was announced by Dr Ajay Khare, president of the Sangharsh Samiti of Madhya Pradesh Medical Officers Association on Tuesday. Notably, the strike was earlier declared postponed as the Chief Minister

had indicated fulfilling the demands of the doctors. However, there was a split in the Association following which the earlier Convener of the Sangharsh Samiti Dr Padmakar Tripathi resigned from hi sposition in the Samiti.

Meanwhile, Principal Secretary (Health) Praveer Krishna said that the government will take strict action against the doctors, if they strike despite having invoked ESMA.
