The Bhopalites can take the pleasure of having a look at 400 years old royal jewellery ‘Thewa Utsav 2013’ at Mrignayanee Emporium, Bittan Market.
A 10-day exhibition began from Thursday and would conclude here on December 29. The royal ‘Thewa’ is a special art of jewellery from Pratapgarh in Rajasthan which involves embossing of intricately worked-out sheet of gold on molten glass.
While talking to ‘The Pioneer, branch manager of Mrignayanee Emporium, Brijendra Raghuwanshi said, “This is the third year we are organinsing an exhibition on thewa jewellery and for the past two years we have recieved a good feedback from people.” He added the artists are invited different districts to present their special collection of thewa jewellery.
“A woman wants to embellish her wardrobe with lots of clothes and matching jewellery. Keeping this in view, Mrignayanee Emporium often organises similar exhibitions for the people to enjoy shopping,” Raghuwanshi added.
Thewa is a traditional art of fusing 23K Gold with multi-coloured glass. The glass is treated by a special process to have glittering effects, which in turn highlights the intricate gold work. “We have displayed the National Award winner Ganpat Soni’s thewa jewellery collection here. He is one of the renowned personalities across the nation for his wonderful work in making the thewa jewellery,” Raghuwanshi said further.
The whole Thewa piece is hand crafted over a period of one month by skilled artisans, which shows the culture, heritage and tales of romance with nature and happiness. The process of making thewa work is detailed, time consuming and intricate, taking up to a month to complete each piece.
Notably, the work is done with broken pieces of terracotta, finely ground, mixed with chemicals and oil to produce a thick paste. The design is often based on the Hindu mythology or Mughal court scenes.
He further informed that the price of the sets starts from `2,000 to highest ` 1lakh.
