The cyber crime cell police have nabbed a 37-year-old man on the charge of creating a fake Facebook profile using photograph of the victim and posted indecent comments on Tuesday.
Police said that the complainant is a resident of state capital lodged a complaint with the cyber cell regarding posting of messages over fake facebook profile made using her name and photographs.
The cyber cell started investigation and obtained information from the Facebook Legal Department. Based on the information it was found that the fake profile was operated from the state capital.
The victim was not aware regarding the fake facebook profile as she was not aware of the accused and he took the photographs from the facebook without her consent. Later in the investigation the police narrowed down to Kolar where the accused lives and nabbed the accused who was identified as Bhagwandad Tiwari of Rajved Colony. The accused runs a shop of stationery items in Kolar area.
Based on the complaint after the preliminary investigation the police have registered a case under section 469 of IPC and 66 C of the IT act and nabbed the accused. Police are yet to confirm crime record of the accused and his involvement in crimes of the same nature and would search his electronic devices and social media accounts.
The reason of creating fake profile would be investigated as the accused revealed that after spotting victim’s photograph he stole the photograph and created a fake profile and spotted obscene comments over the profile.
