Following fight over a petty issue, a 35-year-old woman was set ablaze by her husband at Shanti Nagar under Gandhi Nagar police station area on Wednesday. The victim is struggling for life in hospital.
According to the police, the victim Isha Bhargava was set ablaze after having a fight with her husband and accused Santhosh Bhargava (46). Neighbours and locals rushed to her rescue and rushed her to a nearby hospital where her condition is reportedly stable.
Police said that the victim escaped with minor injuries and is undergoing treatment at the Hamidia hospital.
SHO of Gandhi Nagar police Jitendra Patel said that the accused works a driver with a private firm and used to harass his wife. The accused is a habitual drinker and on Wednesday night returned home in an inebriated state and had a fight with the victim but the fight soon turned nasty after the accused got infuriated with the fight and took petrol from his two -wheeler and set the victim ablaze after pouring petrol over the victim.
The victim sustained around 5-8 per cent burns and is reportedly stable, he added. A complaint was lodged by the family members of the victim and based on the complaint a case under section 307 of the IPC was registered and have started further investigation.
The incident took place at around 10 pm on Wednesday and after the neighbours heard victim’s cry for help they rushed for her rescue. The accused managed to escape from the spot and is still missing. Police have started search for the miscreant.
