A joint team of the District Administration, Police and the RTO seized 34 illegal ambulances from the compound of the JAH Group of Hospitals today.
These ambulances were being operated without registration and other required documents.
After the seizure of the ambulances the team filed a charge sheet against the owners under section 188 of the IPC.
Earlier, Dr Ashok Mishra, the Superintendent of the JAH had intimated the administration and the police about the illegal ambulances.
He had told the administration that only 4 ambulances are officially authorized to ferry sick people.
On receiving the complaint from the hospital authorities, IG, Gwalior Range Rajbabu Singh formed a joint team under the District Collector, RTO and the SP to round up the bogus ambulances.
Before the joint team reached the hospital, SDM, Deepshikha Bhagat met the Medical Superintend and informed him that all the gates of the hospital would be locked during the inspection of the joint team.
During an operation that lasted 4 hours the joint team seized all the illegal ambulances. Some minor scuffle between the owners of the ambulances and the joint party was reported, but sources in the police said that there were no untoward incidents.
Speaking to the media persons, IG Rajbabu Singh said that a joint operation was held on Friday and 34 ambulances were seized. He said that strict action will be taken against the owners of these vehicles.
In a bid to make quick money ordinary vans without the required medical personnel and equipments have been serving as lifesaving vehicles. Apart from the fact that these vehicles have been operating without the required documents, they are also without the mandatory facilities like oxygen cylinder, air conditioner and stretchers.
The JAH administration’s earlier failure to keep a track of such vehicles operating from its premises is the main reason for this illegal practice to have flourished to such an extent.
