A 30-year-old man was booked for attempting to sexually assault his eight-year-old daughter at Atal Ayub Nagar under Gautam Nagar police station area on Thursday.
The victim was asleep at her shanty in Atal Ayub Nagar when the accused father came and tried to sexually assault her but when she raised alert accused escaped the spot.
Police were approached by the victim’s mother who lodged complaint against the accused stating that she divorced accused in the year 2013 and stayed with another man along with mother-in-law and daughter from marriage. The accused used to visit occasionally. On Thursday when victim and other members were asleep at around 1.30 in the night accused Shambhu Pandey came and took the victim with her to other part of the house and when he tried to sexually assault victim she raised alarm for help after which accused escaped the spot.
The victim was sleeping with her grandmother while mother was sleeping in adjacent room at the time of the incident.
Based on the complaint of the victim’s mother after the preliminary investigation the police have registered a case under section 376(2) (4) and 511 of the IPC and section 5(n) (m) and 18 of POCSO.
Police said that the accused do not hold crime record. He used to remain idle while victim’s step-father work as driver. After the complaint police started the search and several places were raised and detained accused.
