The pains of partition were featured on stage through a Hindi play Jis lahore Nahi Dekhya. The play was staged on the first day of Yaadien Mimu drama festival at Antrang Hall, Bharat Bhavan here on Tuesday.

The three-day theatre fest Yaadien Mimu 2014 is being organised in the remembrance of a noted theater artist Mumukshu Mudgal. Directed by one of the renowned actor and theatre director Satish Mehta, the play was staged by Prayog Theatre Group, Bhopal. Asghar Wajahat has written the play, wonderfully featuring the struggle and trauma of the people during partition.

The Indian Partition of 1947 and its fall out haunt both the countries and communities to this date. Jis lahore Nahin Dekhya is both an emotional story of that time as well as a strong comment on the then prevalent socio-political scene.

Sikandar Mirza migrates to Pakistan and is allotted a Haweli by the custodian. He and his family are shocked to find the old Hindu landlady Ratan ki Maa still in the house, who did not leave for India like many others did. A victim of hate, violence and tragedy, she had lost everything but, not the ability to give love and affection.

The story portrays the relationship of Ratan ki Maa with the Mirza family at one level. At another level, the story portrayed how goons try to use religion against Ratan ki Maa for mysterious motives.

One day the old lady dies and this is when the narrative reaches its climax demonstrating the clash of greed and fundamentalism versus sanity and love for fellow human beings.

The play was all about human relationships and care for each other despite belonging to different cultures. The play has already been staged around 200 times across the country and is included as one of the hit plays of theatre industry.

The audiences witnessed the emotional affection among the humans during the era of partition. They were enthralled to watch such a unique knot of relationships on stage accompanied by a brilliant performance of the actors.
