The candidates of the three prominent political parties have been kept under the watchful eye of the police at a hotel on Agra Mumbai National Highway with the objective of preventing any wrongdoing in the polling process in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena-Sheopur parliamentary constituency.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate and former minister, Anup Mishra, Congress nominee and MlA Govind Singh and Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP) Vrindavan Singh Sikarwar were on Thursday called to the police control room before the polling process began. later, they were taken to a hotel and housed in separate rooms. The candidates were reportedly placed under heavy guard.
Mishra and Singh said that they had gone to the hotel voluntarily. They said they were "happy to cooperate with the administration in its efforts to ensure transparent polling".
Sikarwar said that he was taken by police into isolation. He said, "I felt like being under house arrest as my movements are restricted."
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Irshad Ali said that the three candidates had come to the police control room to obtain some polling related information after which they left. He, however, clarified that they have not been detained.
Sources from the administration informed that the three candidates were asked to stay in the police control room here to ensure "free and fair polling". They were asked to stay there till voting is over in the evening as their presence in certain areas may lead to law and order problem, police said.
