In a joint move, the sleuths of the district administration, Indore Municipal Corporation, Indore Development Authority and the police administration demolished as many as 250 pucca and kuchha buildings and houses at Kumeri village of Sanwer tehsil amid stiff protest from the local people.
The demolition of huts and houses was apparently carried out to pave way for the completion of a five-star hotel in the locality. The construction of hotel was lying incomplete for the past sometime as the approach road to hotel passes through huts.
The sleuths of the district administration, Indore Municipal Council (IMC) and Indore Development Authority (IDA) accompanied by large posse of the police force had arrived at the incident site at 8 am on Wednesday had to overcome stiff protest of the villagers including the womenfolk. During protest, a person tried to self-immolate himself by dousing kerosene over his body but he was rescued by the police jawans. The Indore Development Authority had already taken acquired land of Kumeri and adjoining villages surrounding the Super Corridor under its various schemes but the administration had not been able to evacuate villagers from Kumeri and other villages in the locality.
However, delay in completion of an under-construction five-star hotel in the locality due to mushrooming huts in the surrounding areas prompted the district administration to carry out demolition works to evacuate the village Wednesday.
