A 24-year-old vehicle lifting suspect consumed poisonous substance after Kotwali police have started search for him in connection with vehicle lifting gang nabbed on Sunday.
The suspect who consumed poison was identified as Altaf and his elder brother had alleged that police have demanded money for not registering case against Altaf in vehicle lifting case.
SHO Kotwali Shailendra Sharma said that Altaf is involved but he had blamed Shahrukh for the stealing of vehicles.
Altaf has stolen one of the recovered vehicles and to save himself he had consumed poison. The gang had stolen vehicles from different areas of Bhopal and has been working for the past 1-2 years. The suspect Altaf confessed that he along with Shahrukh had stolen vehicles, he added. Police said that in the investigation one of the vehicle lifter revealed of Shahrukh and later revealed name of Altaf.
On Sunday evening Altaf had informed Shahrukh to meet at Bhopal talkies on the instructions of police and trapped Shahrukh but failed to nab him and later Altaf consumed poison fearing arrest. The family of Altaf alleged that police demanded Rs 25000 for not naming Altaf in the crime. He was admitted in Hamidia hospital and later he was admitted in a private hospital in Ashoka Garden area.
During the investigation crime record of Altaf from Aishbagh police station would be checked. Altaf had claimed that he had only helped Shahrukh for taking a two wheelers to a petrol pump as he informed that he ran out or petrol but he never stole any vehicle.
