Farmer resorts to protected farming

BHOPAl:Dharmjay Singh, a resident of village Khuri district Rewa belonging to an ordinary family used to produce traditional agriculture crops like paddy, wheat and arhar. Due to fear of attack from wild animals like wild boar, nilgai and others, farmers were not able to draw courage to undertake any agriculture activities in little barren and gravelly land of red soil lying in the village. Dharmjay Singh by erecting a poly house at this land took initiative to undertake protected farming. Dharmjay Singh by digging pits in the land got the poly house prepared and today, he produces between 5 to 6 thousand rose flowers daily in the poly house which are being sold directly in Delhi. Solar pump has been installed by Dharmjay Singh in the poly house for irrigation. His entire poly house and premises are being illuminated by the solar lights. An approximate expenditure of Rs 2 lakh per month on diesel is being saved by him.

Drawing inspiration from Dharmjay Singh, farmers of the village are moving ahead to undertake protected farming and horticulture crops in order to make the agriculture a profitable occupation. About 24 poly houses have been prepared in the rural areas of Rewa district which are prospering farmers by undertaking protected farming.
