13-acre barren land turns into fertile

Bhopal: An advice and voluntary labour of villagers has turned 13 acre barren land into fertile. This unique feat has been achieved by people of villages Bagdumra and Shikarpur in Anuppur district. Several acres of land are lying infertile in the two villages adjoining Chhattisgarh border. Farmers had land but it was useless for them. For years, a nullah flows near both the villages. But villagers were unable to use its water. Under such circumstances, Jan-Abhiyan Parishad came to their help. Parishad’s workers advised villagers to build a sandbag dam over the nullah. Through voluntary labour, villagers built the dam within a few days. Parishad’s Bagdumra Prasfutan Samiti helped the villagers in this work. Farmers who were earning bread somehow through dry farming for years are now happy over irrigation of 13 acre land since they can take crops round the year. They have made the beginning by growing Rabi crops on the land for the first time. Their success has motivated people of nearby villages who have also started making similar efforts.
