Two short plays were brilliantly staged at Shaheed Bhavan Auditorium here on Sunday. The plays ‘Birthday’ and ‘Classroom’ were held during a one day theatre festival.

The event was organised by People’s Theatre Cultural and Education Welfare Society, Bhopal. Birthday is directed by Sindhu Dholpure and Sharad Baghela. Birthday was written by Suman Oberoi. Another plat Classroom is directed by Godan Kumar and is written by the artists themselves.

Birthday is one play that raises the social issues in a comic manner. The play is a satire about the give and take system. It happens that while taking and giving gifts becomes a curse more than a joy. The play Birthday is a satire on such social evils prevailing in the society.

According to the director, “The play is very well written and raises a question that is usually left unanswered.” The play was splendidly staged at Shaheed Bhavan.

Every individual has its own story, story of struggle, story of living their lives on their terms and conditions, of meeting friends, love, pain and much more. The play Classroom is all about the life incidents.

The play classroom was directed by Godan Kumar. It is interesting to know that the play was a collage of short stories written and shared by the artists themselves.

These stories were interactive and narrative both which bridged the connectivity between the performers and the audience.

The artists wrote these short stories during a workshop where they were taught about the writing skills in theatre.

The main objective of the presentation was to let the artists write their own story and present it on stage. “This is why we called it classroom. The entire atmosphere all through the play was of classroom where people talk to each other share their stories,” informed the director of the play Godan Kumar.
