A beautiful dance drama ‘Kumar Sambhava’ was brilliantly staged at BHEl auditorium here on Saturday. The play was staged under a two-day theatre and dance festival ‘Aaroha’. The dance drama ended the two day theatre festival leaving the audience enthralled. It is to be noted that the two day theatre fest was organized by Heavy Electrical Malyalee Association (HEMA), Pratibhalaya Arts Academy and Vihaan Drama Works. The event is also supported by Department of Culture, Government of Madhya Pradesh. The Bharatnatyam Dance Drama ‘Kumar Sambhava’ was staged for the first time as a drama. The dance drama was directed by Manju Mani Hatwalne and the music direction was given by Umesh Tarakswar. It was beautifully presented by the artists of Pratibhalaya Arts. Kumar Sambhava is one of the finest works by Kalidasa. It basically talks about the birth of Kumara Kartikeya, the son of Shiva and Parvati. Tarakasura, a demon was blessed that he could be killed by none other than Shiva's son; however, Shiva had won over Kama, the god of love. Parvati performed great tapas the spiritual penance to win the love of Shiva. Consequently, Shiva and Parvati's son Kartikeya was born to restore the glory of Indra, king of the Gods. The dance drama was a fine blend of Bharatnatyam, Theyyam and free style dancing. The sagacious tale entails Sringara rasa, the rasa of love, romance and the Veera rasa i.e. the rasa of heroism. It was presented by 20 artistes on stage.
