The aspiring theatre actors of the city learnt the art of mime act in a 15-day mime workshop that concluded on Sunday. Now, the students are preparing for a mime act to be staged before the theatre buffs of the city.

As the aspiring youngsters learnt about the various forms of mime acts including the shadow mime activity which always captures the attention of the theatre lovers across the world.

The rehearsal for the show began from Monday itself and the students are being trained under the guidance of a renowned Mime theatre director Manoj Nair. The show will be staged on May 2 at Shaheed Bhavan.

One of the artists, Aakash told The Pioneer, “We are going to stage the stories based on humanity in a different form.” He said that the four different stories will be staged such as Showman, Mirror, Fake Human and all based on the contemporary society.

Through the workshop, the aspirants explored their skills and are getting acquainted with a different art form of the theatre industry. Being organised by Shadow Group the rehearsals are being conducted at Sharda Bhavan, TT Nagar.

This time the students learnt the Sufism in Mime and all the movements will be included in these presentations. Mime is a theatrical presentation that is performed through only expressions of the face and in this a touch of Sufism will be given which would make the presentation even more impressing, he added.

Manoj Nair said, “The mime performer should always endeavour to use fewer props on stage and explain the concept through expressions. This is what mime is all about. A mime performer has not justified his act if not expressed the emotions and message to the audience properly that lies behind his act.”

Notably, this is a different experience for the youngsters as mime is all about expressions and body language. The youngsters of the city have enthusiastically participated in the workshop and are enjoying rehearsing for the upcoming show.
