In a tragic incident reported from Gandhi Nagar, a 14-year-old girl committed suicide after allegedly being scolded by her mother. The minor, identified as Rupali Soni, consumed a poisonous substance on Friday afternoon and succumbed to her injuries during treatment on Sunday morning.

According to initial reports, Rupali was the only daughter of Shankar Soni, a resident of Vikas Nagar. She had recently appeared for her Class 10 board examinations. Family members said she used to spend considerable time on her phone, a matter her mother would often object to.

On Friday, following a similar scolding episode, Rupali reportedly consumed rat poison kept in the house. Her uncle, Shyam Kumar Soni, told the media that the family rushed her to a hospital after she began vomiting. Despite medical efforts, she could not be saved and passed away two days later.

Visuals showed family members waiting outside the mortuary on Sunday afternoon as the post-mortem was conducted and the body was handed over for last rites.

Investigating officer Lakshmi Devi stated that no suicide note was recovered from the girl’s belongings and that the real cause behind the suicide is yet to be determined. "The detailed statements of family members are still pending, and only after that will we understand the full circumstances leading to this incident," she said.

The police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation to ascertain whether there were other contributing factors behind the minor’s extreme step.

The incident has left the local community in shock, raising fresh concerns about mental health awareness and emotional sensitivity, especially among teenagers.
