Over a dozen vehicles were gutted in a major fire, which broke out in the DP of a commercial building located near busy Vijay Nagar Square on Saturday. The incident occurred in the afternoon on Saturday after a DP of Shagun building blasted. This led to outbreak of fire. As fire broke out, oil oozed out of the DP and fell on the ground. As a result of this, vehicles parked in the parking lot of the building caught fire and about 14 of these vehicles were gutted in the fire.
The incident created panic in the area making people as well as employees working in various parts of this building run helter-skelter. Soon after receiving information, fire brigade vehicles were also rushed to the incident and later, fire was put off. Due to fire, power supply of the whole building got disconnected.
As the building where the incident took place, is located near busy Vijay Nagar circle, traffic on the common lane of the BRTS opposite this building was stopped, leading to traffic chaos in the locality. Vehicles coming from Sayaji hotel, Radisson hotel and Dewas Naka side were diverted through the restricted BRTS lane, which is mainly reserved for the i-buses. It took almost three hours before traffic movement in the locality returned to normalcy.
