Civic authorities in Bhopal rescued a 12 feet long crocodile from a farmhouse located in Islam Nagar area, on the outskirts of the city on Monday.

It is believed that the crocodile was washed away by floods to the residential area in Bhopal. Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorities rushed to the spot as soon as they were informed by the locals.

Snake expert Shahid Ali  posted in the flood control room of the BMC was called who reached the spot with Asim Khan and Ashar Ali and his team captured the reptile after almost five hours of efforts.

Ali said, “The family was scared. They were frightened and children were standing on the terrace. Women were screaming with fear. It was a different atmosphere in the farmhouse. When I reached there, the crocodile was sitting in a mud-pool amidst stones. It was quite aggressive. Two men helped me in capturing it or else it would have been difficult to do the job alone. It took me around four-five hours to capture it.”

Ali further said that besides the family members large number of people gathered there to see the reptile causing difficulties for us in capturing it as it started running away from us when we tried to capture it but at last after four five hours of efforts we manage to capture it.

The reptile was later taken to be released in the forest. The people of the area are now living in fear as they are of the view that if one crocodile has been spotted there could be some other too.

Notably, last year in December a tiger was caught by the forest authorities from Nabi Bagh a highly populated area of the city that is in the same vicinity of Islam Nagar.
