11 escape from juvenile home

At least 11 juvenile offenders have escaped from a juvenile home on Sunday night injuring the security guard and caretaker and damaged the office equipments.

However, police claimed they have arrested at least six of them and five are still large. The offenders were involved in serious crimes like murder, kidnapping, extortion, robbery and rape, a police officer said.

CSP Jehangirabad Saleem Khan claimed that the swift action taken by police teams have resulted in nabbing six out of 11 offenders within an hour. The officer further said that police teams are working round the clock to arrest the remaining offenders.

The in-charge of the Juvenile correction home Prabha Chaturvedi said that few days back four inmates of the Central jail were brought to the correction home after they were found to be juvenile. After their arrival they used to create nuisance frequently.

Police said a group of offenders had colluded to escape and planned their escape route. By around 11 pm when the food for the next day were prepared the juveniles escaped.

The on duty security guard Om Prakash Dhurve and caretaker Ashok Kumar Raghuvanshi informed that the offenders roughed them up and escaped after throwing chili powder in their eyes. Kumar claimed that the offenders also took his mobile phone. The incident has raised questions on the security of the Juvenile Protection Home as only two security guards are deployed for keeping an eye on 44 inmates.
