‘Vigil in the snow’ screened at Shaurya Smarak

Movie depicting the life of soldiers on Himalayas 'Vigil In The Snow' was screened at Shaurya Smarak on Sunday.

Presented by the Film Division of India, the movie was directed by M Bhavnani.

The film was screened under the regular film screenings held at Shaurya Smarak every day. The movies screened here are based on the Indian Army, Navy and other armed forces. It is to be noted that the film featured the brave hearts who protected the country from high levels of Himalayas.

This film describes the constant vigil our jawans kept on the grimheights of Kashmir during a bitter winter. Fighting against heavy odds in unusual circumstances, and on heights which had never before heard the roar of guns, our soldiers guard the country there.

Guarding this region is not at all cakewalk by any means.

Temperatures can reach as low as -60 degrees Celsius, oxygen drops sharply and even the food one eats, gets frozen often. Soldiers here face not just the threat of enemies from across the border but from diseases such as frostbites, severe depression, pulmonary and cerebral oedema. On many occasions, these deadly diseases result in the death of a jawan.

It is to be noted that everyday movies based on the bravery of the Indian army, air force, navy and police are being screened at Shaurya Smarak.

The regular film screening is being organised as a tribute to their contributions and their sacrifices.
