The painful story of a eunuch was told through a Bundelkhandi play ‘Lachhiya’. The play was staged here on Friday at Ravindra Bhavan auditorium. The play was staged marking the third day of a five-day theatre festival.
The play is about an eunuch maned Lachhiya. He tried his best to be accepted by the society, but society always mistreated him. Lachhiya wants to live a normal life. He wants to be just like as any other individual of the society, but since his birth Lachhiya faces trials and tribulations put forward by society. He faces rejection and is treated with hatred just because of his gender. What happens to him was all about the play Lachhiya. Directed by Wasim Ali the play was directed by Street Fact Drama Group, Bhopal.
Lacchiya is not a male, nor a female and not even a transgender. With the complexes of his gender, his life becomes a big question for him. Through the play, the director tries to highlight the plight of eunuch.
Lachhiya is a fictional character played by Jackie Bhavsar. The play begins with introducing Lachhiya on stage in his colourful attire. Lachhiya is a eunuch who lives his life on his terms and conditions.
A song in Bundelkhandi marks the start of the play. Lachhiya introduces himself to the audience and as the play moves forward, other characters take up the stage.
The light design added to the mood of the scenes. Lachhiya is hated by all, he cannot be a part of his family too and this is what was more painful for Lachhiya.
As Lachhiya goes on telling his story to the audience, the play keeps on taking sensitive and emotional turns. The play with a different concept was much appreciated by the theatre buffs of the city.
