While the counting of votes is only few hours away, BJP candidate from Bhopal Pragya Thakur on Monday announced to hold silence and tapasya for little less than three days.
More than anything else the firebrand sadhvi remained in headlines mostly for her takes right from the start when she was nominated as Bhopal lok sabha candidate by the saffron party.
However, as the polling for 2019 concluded on May 19, the sadhvi decided to ‘introspect and repent’.
Taking to twitter through her official handle around noon on Monday, the sanyasan, an accused in Malegaon blast case of 2008, said, “After the polling process, it’s time for introspection. If all this while, my words hurt the nationalists, I am tendering apologies. And according to the customs of the social life, I have decided to observe silence and tapasya of 21 prahars (unit of the day measuring three hours).
Thakur who raked up trouble for BJP with her contentious takes on Hemant Karkare and Babri demolition to start with had kicked up trouble for the party after the polling in Bhopal by calling Nathuram Godse a patriot.
This remark had drawn massive criticism for the BJP ahead of the seventh and last phase of polling. Even PM Narendra Modi during the visit to Indore had flayed Thakur saying he won’t forgive her even as Thakur had tendered an unconditional apology for her statement.
Among others, Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi had asked for too flayed Sadhvi’s expulsion from BJP saying people like her were killing the soul of Mahatma Gandhi. Bihar Chief Minister and the BJP ally Nitish Kumar too had sought her expulsion from the party.
People in the country are intrigued as what would be the outcome of interesting contest between Congress' Digvijay Singh and Pragya Thakur.
