Where is Gandhi? Is this the nation Gandhi wanted? The play ‘Gandhi Ki Hatya Hazarvi Baar’ threw light on these questions.
Staged on Tuesday at Gandhi Bhavan, the changed India was seen through the eyes of two mentally ill patients. Directed by Shahvez Sikander, the play was performed by the artists of Hun Theatre Troupe, Bhopal.
The play was staged to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Tuesday. The play begins with a scene where two mentally ill patients are seen running away from St. Mary Mental Asylum. The elderly eyes of these two patients are searching for Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi) on the streets of the city.
They ask each and every person on the street ‘Have you seen Mahatma Gandhi somewhere? We want to meet him.” People signore them as they thought that both of them are mentally ill and will not understand the present scenario. During this time, the audiences are taken on a trail of new changed India.
During their search for Mahatma Gandhi, the two patients encounter with different people. They meet with different people including a minister who shows them that how corrupt a person can be.
When the patients see that this is not the country Mahtam Gandhi wanted they return to the mental asylum, as they thought this would be a better place to live in than the society. The audiences are then taken to the scene where it all started.
