‘Applying tika won’t fetch votes for Cong’

Commenting on Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s visits to temples and mosques, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that only applying tika on the forehead would not garner votes for the Congress.

Chouhan was addressing a huge gathering during his Jan Ashirvad Yatra at Seronj of Vidisha district. It was a surprise for many to witness that former minister and accused in the infamous Vyapam scam Laxmikant Sharma shared stage with the Chief Minister.

Even at the banner at the stage, the photograph of Sharma along with pictures of Chief Minister and his wife Sadhana Singh was prominent.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister further said that votes could be garnered only by serving people for years. He stated that when elections come closer, Congress leaders start remembering the peasants, but the fact is that Congress president does not know where the onion grows, where under the ground or above it.

He stated that Congress has ruled the State and the country for decades, but it did not give anything to the farmers. Since British era and during the Congress regime, the irrigated area in Madhya Pradesh was only 7 lakh hectare, while now, it has increased to 40 lakh hectares and in next five years, this area would reach 80 lakh hectares, he added.

Chouhan alleged that Congress did not do any development works towards the welfare of farmers, on the contrary snat5ched everything from them.
