In an interview, Rajiv Kale shares his vision for IP University and factors that have made it an institution to reckon with
What is the USP of the universityIJ
Ours is a State university and under the Act, there is a provision of reservation of 85 per cent of seats for students from Delhi. Availability of wide range of professional and technical courses is another advantage. located in Delhi, its proximity to NCR is an added advantage. Curriculum innovation, credit-based semester system, continuous evaluation of the system, industrial training or internship as part of the academic programmes, regular updation of academic programmes as per contemporary trends and scenario are some of distinctive features.
The university has a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. How does this model workIJ
The advantage of this model is that the university is not entirely dependent on government funds. We have a kind of financial autonomy to develop academics and infrastructure. With financial as well as administrative autonomy, we can charter our growth path. We have recently been graded with an A grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council, indicating that we are developing on the right track.
What changes have been made since last year’s admission processIJ
We have made the admission process completely online. As a result, we received a record number of 2.45 lakh applications for around 29,000 seats in 154 programmes from across the country. We also adopted online process for counselling.
How are you planning to bring more transparency and accountability on the part of the affiliated institutionsIJ
We are trying to make our academic process more transparent and accountable, especially for affiliated institutes to maintain quality education. There is a statutory disclosure online with close periodical monitoring so that the institutions perform as per their commitments. We are grading affiliated institutions into categories, depending upon the quality of the education being imparted. There will be incentives for institutions getting A grades and so on. Affiliated institutes are also benefitted from the university initiatives like Faculty Development Programme.
What advise would you give to the students of IP UniversityIJ
My advise is that every student who goes out of the university must become a good human being and must be able to make a mark for himself in whichever profession he goes. This can be done only by ensuring the presence of total knowledge, interest and hard work.
What are your future plansIJ
Our vision is to turn IP University into a world-class university where there will be a conglomeration of students and faculty members from various places to generate new knowledge and confluence of ideas. We want to take this institution to the next level by bringing in more quality, newer innovations, focus on industry-oriented professional education and enhancing our research activities.
