Ramayana in school education

Arun Govil , the iconic Rama of the epic serial Ramayana of the 80s has taken the initiative to take the epic to schools with a meaningful value-oriented series, formatted in contemporary style. Stressing the importance of the deep-rooted values, generations of forefathers have derived from the epic serial to the next generation, Govil feels the best way to reach out is to move with the schools as part of their value education programmes.

Meenu Goswamy, principal of  Bharati Public School, Pitampura, which is hosting the event on February 14, 2014, feels it is extremely time-relevant to organise programmes that will help children rediscover their roots. The series which will be conducted by Govil, emphasises on the relevance of Ramayana in today’s times and highlights how the epic when understood with the right perspective can help achieve greater success.

Hariharan Balagopal, as a consultant to many educational institutions has been closely working on this concept to introduce it in the schools. The programme has been divided into four parts to address seven Kandas of Ramayan, each prescribing various values and code of conduct. The series will be in the form of a workshop with interactive participation of parents, teachers and students. Pre-event workshops and classroom exercises has also been organised.
