The multi-skill foundation course weaves skill education with subjects and encourages learning with real-time experimentation, says VIVEK K SINGH
The New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizes the need to adopt competency-based learning approach to ensure adroitness in teachers in order to deal with real life situations. Multi Skill Foundation Cours" (MSFC) weaves skill education with mainstream subjects and encourages learning with the help of real-time experimentation. The MSFC was first introduced by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development in 2018. Thereafter, the course was adopted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) as one of the skill subjects at Secondary Level.
The CBSE in partnership with Lend-a-Hand has crafted an online learning and assessment course to train teachers. This initiative is taken to promote multi-skill foundation courses and is broken down into three coherent parts known as modules, I am listing down all the three modules:
Module 1 stresses on technology- workshop, engineering techniques, energy and environment. It will include: Workshop & Engineering Techniques and Energy & Environment (video conference), Course on Workshop & Engineering Techniques and Course on Energy & Environment
Module 2 stresses on life sciences- gardening, nursery, agricultural and food processing techniques. It will include Gardening, Nursery & Agriculture Techniques, Food Processing Techniques and Personal Health & Hygiene (video conference), Gardening, Nursery & Agriculture Techniques, Food Processing Techniques and Personal Health & Hygiene.
Module 3 stresses on- employability skills and vocational pedagogy. It will include Pedagogy & Employability Skills (video conference), Pedagogy & Employability Skills, Assessment on Module-3, Orientation to Multi Skill Program Elements (Guest Lectures, Home Visits and Field Visits).
A minimum of 50 per cent marks are required to pass in all the three modules. A virtual orientation will be organised for every module. Post orientation, 48 hours will be devoted to complete the respective modules and an assessment will be conducted after every module.
Things to be noted:
The idea behind the course is learning while doing, training will be conducted in the blended learning format. This opportunity will let teachers practice at home and get their queries answered from the master trainers.
