Students still prefer to be in offline classrooms for studies as opposed to online ones, Manek Daruvala tells RACHITA MAlHOTRA
How has the education and training industries changedIJ
Information has increased. The difference between today and 15 years ago is that now, students are much more aware and have many sources of information, which may be correct and incorrect. People in the past would come to us for information, now they come with information for advice.
Are young learners more interested in online coursesIJ
I don’t think so. Yes, the education industry is going digital but it has not completely transformed. We offer both online and personal classes and there are not many students available for online classes. Evaluating performance is easy on the digital medium and a lot of students opt for that method for mock tests, but when it comes to studying, even today students feel comfortable offline.
Has competition increased over the yearsIJ
The level has increased because the number of students willing to study are increasing by the day. But the ratio might not have increased, because if the number of students have increased so have the number of seats. There are many more IIMs and IITs these days.
How do you handle students who don’t live up to expectationsIJ
It’s not about expectation. We do our job right and we make sure that students are constantly motivated. If a student is unable to live up to expectations, it means he is not putting in the required effort and that is when a student needs extra motivation and the right guidance.
In which year has your score been the highestIJ
Every year our scores have been improving and I think this year probably will be the best year.
What factors affect students in any given yearIJ
The most important factor is time a student spends on preparation.
There is a correlation between less time spent and poor scores. The reason for spending less time on preparation could be anything, may be low motivation to studying. Unless he spends time, goes to class regularly, clears his doubts and then works on whatever he is weak at, there is no chance of scores increasing.
