Prof JP Sharma talks to Team Avenues about how IMS Ghaziabad is integrating the evolving trends into their curriculum

What are the trends in management educationIJ

The business models have become disrupted with radical technological revolution. Whether you talk of online or blended classrooms, project-based activities incorporating technology, simulation or game-based learning, e-learning with handheld devices, use of social media and collaborative online tools for engaging students, management education has evolved at a pace not thought of.  Another gray area is soft skills of the students. It is imperative for B-Schools to focus on soft skills development.

What are the changes that you plan to bring in your curriculumIJ

B-schools have to be on the cutting edge. It is  essential for them to teach how to manage businesses in the current context and also to foresee situations. They must periodically question the status quo or become obsolete. B-Schools have to adapt to the rising demand for creative, responsible and socially conscious students, curriculum revamps, faculty and students engagement in solving real world problems, innovative methods of delivering education online and launching incubators cell. Our vision is to nurture our students along these lines and create an environment where knowledge ushers thus leading to collaborative growth.

What are some of the courses and workshops launchedIJ

We offer dual specialisation which helps student broaden their horizon and think beyond the obvious. Professional and Personal Skills Program (PPSP) inculcates soft skills in students, and is a mandatory part of course curriculum in globally accepted trimester-based continuous assessment system. We expose our students to various workshops and certifications. The real learning comes from beyond the boundary classrooms, and hence context-based learning is provided through scheduled visits to industries.

Which MBA entrance exams do you plan to acceptIJ

IMS follows a robust admission process which judges an aspirant not only on the basis of a test but considers his overall performance based on the proportionate weightage criteria comprising of entrance exam scores along with group discussion, personal interview, past academic performance and work experience. The admission criterion assigns 25 per cent weightage to the scores of CAT, XAT, CMAT or MAT/ATMA.

How do you plan to enrich your two-year management programmeIJ

Exemplary Academic Initiatives were introduced in 2016. Starting from up gradation of the entire curriculum by senior academician and industry experts as well as their induction in the Advisory Academic Board, enrichment of faculty base from top institutions, launching of special seminar series where renowned professors, corporate Czars and senior bureaucrats were invited to deliver on contemporary topics, live industry exposure to the students through a very aggressive industry-academia interface, regular industry feedback, etc. We strive to enhance, enrich and inculcate business simulations, exchange programmes, study tours, involving students to solve real time business problems.

How do you prepare your students for the placement processIJ

We have integrated different placement preparation modules spread across the tenure of programme. Some of the modules for PGDM students are: Special Seminar Series; Special Sessions on logical Reasoning and Aptitude Test; Placement Readiness Enhancement Program by Winning Mantras; PPSP Programme, etc
