The way ahead to the traditional classroom teaching is the flipped classroom which is a pedagogical model where students learn through video lectures at home and have an interactive session in the classrooms that includes exercises, projects, or discussions. The main aspect of FlIP is Flexible environment, learning culture, Intentional content and Professional educators.
“Solutions like flipped learning are going to change the face of the educator and the child learning experiences. It's right now only to a matter of classroom or tuition centre. But at Educomp, we are looking at the anytime anywhere solution like Ola cab model. Having problem solving a question at 11 pm, you got stuck and there is no body to help you, you get a tutor on demand. You can get activated on there. It has also given rise to e-tutor industry,” Divya lal, chief operating officer, Educomp Smartclass.
At the higher education level, a lot of platforms have come up that are providing Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) courses. The market is estimated to grow to USD 8.50 Billion by 2020.
“Khan Academy has led the way in this but doesn’t have the brick and mortar set up of an institution and platforms like Apple’s iTunes and even Google’s You Tube and Play Store have tied up with existing universities to offer lots of courses using the reach of the internet. At Whistling Woods, we’ve set up a virtual academy which takes our entire filmmaking foundation course online and has detailed learning and feedback sessions built into the programme. It’s a fledgling initiative but one which holds great promise,” Rahul Puri, head of academics , Whistling Woods International tells you.
