New-age career options are a rage among students. MUSBA HASHMI speaks with experts and academicians to tell you how equipped schools are to prepare job ready individuals and what the future holds for these courses
It’s time that we have finally managed to get over the likes of engineering, law and medical sciences. Alternative career options are now in the driver’s seat. Students, too, are preferring to land a job that not only help them earn a handsome amount of money, but also give them that much needed job satisfaction. Not that, engineering and law lacks it, but it is, of course, not on everyone’s cards.
As the innovations are mostly turning out to be multidisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary, even the careers are becoming one.
CM Faiz, Director, HKBK College Of Engineering, tells you that Sports Analytics/Sports Management and Audio Engineering are some of the few options that students can choose from.
“Sports Analytics is used at every level of sports management from school to the international level, while audio engineering open a plethora of options in the music and film industry and also in the ad agencies,” Faiz says.
Also, when one talks about technology an innovation, there is no way of not mentioning the growing careers of Full Stack Web Development and Cybersecurity.
“Full Stack Web Development is the combination of both front end and back end portions in the life of a web application. You’ll be glad to know that full-stack development jobs are considered one of the highest paying jobs in India. This is primarily because of its demand and the lack of skilled professionals in the domain. The average salary of a Full Stack Developer is around `10 lakh per annum and an experienced professional can earn `20 lakh per annum according to Glassdoor,” Diwakar Chittora, CEO & Director, IntelliPaat, explains.
On the other hand, cybersecurity jobs are in high-demand worldwide as every organisation professionals in their security teams to maintain their security and prevent any breach of data. “Organisations around the world are in need of cybersecurity professionals as vacancies are left unfilled and these vacancies are still open,” Chittora adds.
Another one on the list of the most-sought after jobs of the 21st century is Data Scientist. “Demand across the world for Data Scientists will only grow and the lack of competition for these jobs makes data science a lucrative option for a career path. People from across the world are getting into this domain due to its demand and popularity. According to an IBM report, Data Science jobs would likely grow by 30 per cent. The estimated figure of job listing is 2,720,000 for Data Science in 2021. Also, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, about 11 million jobs will be created by 2026,” Chittora tells you.
While new-age career options are the way forward, the question is whether the school curriculum is well-equipped enough to help students take the alternative way and makes them job ready.
“The best route to creating job ready individuals is to involve business organisations in the academic process. With the implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP 2020) that focuses on industry-academia alliance and vocational learning, we will be able to produce job ready individuals, who will revolutionise the industry and fast-track the development of our country,” Alka Kapur, Principal, Modern Public school, Shalimar Bagh, New Delhi, tells you.
She lists courses that are on the priority lists of students. “Technological advancement and digitisation of services have expanded the market, and they’ve opened up a plethora of job opportunities such as application developers, web creative writers, bloggers, wedding photographers, cinematographers, reviewers, influencers, social media handlers, digital marketers, motivational speakers, ethical hackers, web designers, image consultants, stand-up comedians and YouTubers, among others,” she mentions.
