The website is a one-stop solution for learning science on the web. learning science is a three step process that includes learning, discussing and problem solving. One can learn from information rich video lectures, dig deep in science books and read expert authored articles. Brainstorming is the interesting side of learning science through discussions with peers and subject matter experts. One can also solve challenging problems to check your knowledge.
What is the aimIJ
We would like to attract and engage power users on our site. Enhance user experience by adding features especially designed for science. We’ll have features suitable for everyone — from passionate learner to an enthusiast. Our vision is to become a go-to place for learning science.
It is an e-platform. How will it help in better understand scienceIJ
Apart from learning, discussing and problem solving in a nice interface which is for free, there are several other features. One can interact, and network with students and professors. We have tailor-made tools for Science: laTeX integrated platform, laTeX equation editor, learning management system for personalisation, challenges, book reviews, and a responsive interface. Also we focus on life time learning.
What are some of these featuresIJ
If one is on the home page, the side bar menu has a list of features. Go in the learn section and access video lectures. In the learn section, the top horizontal menu will allow one to contribute and read articles on topics that interest you. This section also allows you to read books and reviews. The site gives a chance to clear one’s doubts. All you have to do is frame a question and get them answered.
Also, one doesn’t have to remember laTeX code for any of the science equations. One can use the equation caller tool. No one on the Internet is offering this facility. One can use computational tool on the platform to generate graphs, charts or computing. Besides this, one can network with science professionals and students from over 190 countries.
Why the need for such a platformIJ
We see a strong demand for an e-platform to discuss, learn and network — a complete ecosystem in the field of higher science. At present, no e-resource caters to all the aspects necessary for continual learning. The problem with existing resources online is that: Given the massiveness of scale most e-learning sources fail to provide interaction with subject experts; Exposure is limited to number of slides, and videos. It does not offer continual process of learning new concepts, and retaining them. This ultimately leads to skill gap at work place.
How did the idea come upIJ
Adit Gupta, founder and Sakshi Majmudar, co-founder & CTO of Function Space have always been passionate about learning and discussing Science. Their passion for science led to the foundation. later, Sumit Maniyar, CFA & co-founder joined them. The team is determined to create a ‘one-stop’ solution for learning science.
Is the website only about sharing information on scienceIJ Or can people have their doubts cleared as wellIJ
Of course one can have the doubts cleared. The whole idea is to encourage social learning where subject experts/peers can help the users to clear any queries that they may have related to science.
