‘Quality over quantity matters’
Gurpreet Wadhera tells you the importance of International English language Test and what are the key points aspirants should keep in mind while preparing
learning and teaching in this digital age is changing for better in India, and so is preparation for International English language Testing System (IElTS), a prerequisite for study abroad. Remedial testing methodology coupled with its mobile app is working wonders.
It is the quality and not the quantity that matters. Even two to three hours of focused and quality inputs by best experts can be much more productive than putting longer hours in the classrooms and not getting any time for assimilation. This can be counter-productive. The English proficiency requirement has definitely gone up in last five years. Now, it is not only the overall band score which is the requirement for admission in any university or college but also the individual band scores as well. So, it is important for students who aspire to study abroad that they must have good knowledge of the English language.
It is very difficult for a person to be a part of any society without knowing the language where he lives or works. Migrating to English-speaking countries without having the proficiency of the language is not good in the long run. Moreover, IElTS or any other language proficiency test is the requirement of those countries if people plan to be there on a permanent basis. There would always be a question mark on the person without having cleared IElTS.
An IElTS student, with a rural background, finds it tough to clear the exam. It is difficult but not impossible. The way technology has been introduced in the classroom, it is very helpful in identifying the weaknesses in the performance of the students on a daily basis and then work on them one by one. Weak students are identified by going through their cumulative performance reports and then assigned to specialised teachers in small groups. Their performance is monitored and extra inputs are given to make them reach the required band score level.
There may be some problems related to reading and speaking. To overcome this, if students get right inputs in a right manner, they can clear this hurdle. Students should not sit in the class the whole day. There is a limit to the extent one’s mind can grasp or learn. Beyond that it is just time-pass and not learning. Even very weak students, three-fours hours of quality preparation is enough. language learning should be fun and not a pain.
Remedial testing methodology is automatically generated tests by the system based on the question types that the student has attempted wrong while doing reading or listening module in the class. The system will generate a small test which will go into student’s account and the student can attempt that according to his convenience within next 72 hours. The benefit the students get is that he is working on what he has done wrong and not wasting time by doing more.
The Internet has opened so many avenues. Online education has facilitated many professionals who can have higher qualification while working and grow in their careers. Similarly, many students in rural areas can have reach to good education in the absence of good educational institutes in their vicinity.
