Bakery
The Puratos India, a subsidiary of Belgium bakery, invites application for two-year intensive bakery programme at its Bakery School in Mumbai. The course is designed to enable and prepare students from disadvantaged backgrounds to progress beyond basic schooling with practical training that will allow them to readily earn a good livelihood.
An important factor for the school’s creation is the Puratos Group’s commitment to corporate social responsibility wherever they operate. Puratos attaches great importance not only to sharing their own knowledge and skills with their business partners — the bakeries, supermarkets and food service companies — but also to helping others who are less fortunate in the local community.
Admission to the school is based on the motivation and commitment shown by the student, but also their parents, who are involved in the selection process. 25 students are enrolled each year for this programme.
The course is organised over four semesters and offers a wide curriculum beginning with the basics of baking and patisserie to advanced levels of patisserie, sugar work and chocolate making. In addition to a strong technical foundation, students will be introduced to new methods and materials in the industry. The programme will also involve short periods of work experience in various companies, for which students will be paid.
