Support her education
The Body Shop in association with Food for life Vrindavan recently launched SHE — Support her Education — a campaign aimed at educating 100 girls in need. It is being endorsed by Vivek Oberoi. Education is the most critical area of empowerment for women today. On an average, Indian women receive 1.8 years of schooling. Fifty three per cent of girls in the age group of 5-9 are illiterate.
Offering girls basic education is one way enabling them to make genuine choices.
Celebrating women’s day
21st century women have risen to great positions in various key sectors making a significant contribution to the global economy. Women do play a very vital role in the society. Girls mature into women who for the most part oversee learning in the home and at school. When girls do not receive a well-rounded education, they can’t impart the same to their offspring.
Women have always and will always be “working women”. Women nurture on the home front as they have done throughout time, but now women are stepping outside of the home to contribute in corporate, educational, social service, medical, financial, etc. Citizens have to uphold and support the aspirations of women so that they live with dignity.
Being a woman translates into hard work, determination and, quite naturally, comes with a calling from above to invest a lifetime into encouraging all those with whom a woman comes in contact. The woman is the foundation of the society itself.
We have confidence in Isaiah: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
