Practice meditation for well-being & healthy heart

Published on:

Meditation if practiced in right earnest can lead to a path to self-discovery and holistic well-being. And yes, it is good for your heart too!

Meditation, often defined as the process of cultivating present-moment awareness, holds the potential to offer spiritual experiences that transcend our ordinary conscious state. This practice is a means of shifting from a state of disturbed consciousness, characterized by localized perceptions influenced by time and space, to an undisturbed state of consciousness that transcends such limitations. Essence of Meditation: Meditation, at its core, is not about forcing the mind to be quiet; rather, it's a technique that guides us towards discovering the innate quietude within ourselves. It is a spiritual expedition that carries our awareness from the physical body to the subtle body, and further towards the soul and spirit.

One of meditation's most intriguing aspects is its ability to lead us to the silence that resides between thoughts. As thoughts arise and dissipate, there is a gap in between – a gap that represents pure silence, the realm where the thinker of thoughts exists. This idea is encapsulated in the concept of "Aham Brahmasmi," signifying the unity of all beings under a shared consciousness.

Through this process, meditation unveils our true essence, helping us fathom our purpose in the universe and facilitating the pursuit of divinity, eternity, happiness, and bliss.

Holistic Health and the Role of Meditation: The World Health Organization's definition of optimum health extends beyond the absence of disease, emphasizing physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being. Meditation aligns perfectly with this comprehensive perspective. Ayurveda supports this holistic approach.

A Vedic saying, "Yatha pinday, tatha brahmaanday," underscores the interconnectedness between the microcosm (individual) and macrocosm (universe). Meditation acts as the glue that binds these components together, integrating our existence within the vast cosmic web. This perspective transforms the universe into a cosmic computer, with our bodies housing the terminal cells. In this analogy, the mind becomes the programmer, a microcosmic expression of the cosmic mind, guiding our energies in alignment with the universal energy. Thus, meditation empowers us to shape our thoughts, perceptions and choices.

Diverse Paths of Meditation: Numerous meditation techniques exist, each offering a distinct path to inner transformation. Transcendental Meditation, Raj Yoga Meditation, Japa Meditation, Mindfulness Meditation, and more serve as various avenues toward a common goal – discovering the essence of our being and connecting with the cosmos.

The Primordial Sound Meditation Approach: Among these techniques, Primordial Sound Meditation stands out. Rooted in the Yogic tradition of India, this practice aims to unite body, mind, soul, spirit, and environment. The ancient yogic sutras by Patanjali underscore this union, revealing the path to settling the mind into a state of pure silence.

The subtle body, consisting of the mind, intellect, and ego, plays a crucial role in this process. The restless nature of the mind drives its wanderings and emotional fluctuations. The intellect, however, offers discernment and guidance, akin to a skilled driver manoeuvring a car. The ego, reflective of self-image, can either be self-referential or object-referential, with the latter hindering growth and harmony.

Delving into the Causal Body: The causal body, embodying the soul and spirit, is explored through meditation. The soul represents the individual manifestation of the spirit, which is pure consciousness. This realm, devoid of time, space, and dimensions, is the field of pure silence – the gap between thoughts.

The Mantra's Significance: In Primordial Sound Meditation, the mantra becomes our guide. Composed of meaningless syllables, these mantras emit basic vibrations that soothe the nervous system. The mantra holds deep significance – it symbolizes the universal divine sound "Aum" and encapsulates the levels of consciousness. This sacred sound reverberates across cultures and religions, reflecting humanity's shared spiritual journey.

Effects on the Senses: Meditation's influence extends to our senses. Sound, a universal energy, permeates both within and around us. Touch, smell, and taste energies play pivotal roles in our well-being. For instance, fragrances can energize or calm us, while touch, in its various forms, connects us to healing energies.

The Holistic Experience:  Ultimately, Primordial Sound Meditation leads us through physical, subtle, and causal bodies, guiding us to experience the silence that holds infinite possibilities. By reciting mantras effortlessly, we may either drift into sleep, wrestle with restlessness, or slip into the profound silence between thoughts. This practice offers a way to reconnect with the primordial sound that birthed us and rediscover the unity that permeates our existence.
