Bastar’s transformation and the role of Prime Minister Modi’s resolve

There are certain figures in public life whose identities are shaped not merely by the offices they hold or the political victories they secure, but by their connection with the people and their determination to transform the course of the nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is one such leader. From his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat to his stewardship of the country as Prime Minister, the past 25 years of his public life represent a journey marked by political experience, sustained engagement and an abiding commitment to public service.

Prime Minister Modi’s political journey cannot be assessed solely through electoral victories or the number of government schemes launched during his tenure. One of the defining features of his leadership has been his ability to establish a direct connect with the people. Bringing the aspirations of citizens from diverse regions into the larger discourse on national development has remained an important element of his political approach.

Today, Modi occupies a central place in Indian politics, with large sections of the population looking to him for stable leadership, decisive action and the fulfilment of the country’s national aspirations. This public confidence is, in itself, a considerable political asset. Yet, sustaining that confidence requires continuous engagement, accountability and tangible results on the ground. Initiatives such as the Seva Sankalp campaign provide an opportunity for the organisation to deepen its engagement with the people and reaffirm its commitment to their welfare.

Among the many significant aspects of Prime Minister Modi’s tenure, the sustained effort to eliminate Naxalite violence stands out as particularly consequential. His firm resolve has contributed to a decisive shift in regions that were once afflicted by Left-Wing Extremism. Areas where violence had taken root amid the absence of adequate educational opportunities and basic amenities are now witnessing a gradual transition towards development. Bastar has emerged as a compelling example of this transformation. Inspired by the Prime Minister’s vision and supported by sustained efforts to restore peace and expand development, the region is seeking to leave behind the shadow of Maoist violence and embark on a new journey of progress.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi completes 25 years in public life, the Seva Sankalp campaign being undertaken in Chhattisgarh seeks to take the message of development to villages and connect people with the larger national resolve for progress. As part of this initiative, I had the opportunity to interact with schoolchildren in Tarandul village of Kanker district, in the Bastar division. Our conversation centred on their aspirations, interests and future career opportunities. Spending time with the children, understanding their dreams and encouraging them to pursue education was an enriching and deeply personal experience. Schoolbags and books were distributed among them, along with a message that education remains one of the most enduring means of achieving their goals.

The interaction offered a glimpse into the aspirations of children in rural and remote areas. Even in villages far removed from major urban centres, young minds are looking towards a future shaped by progress, opportunity and achievement. For many of them, Prime Minister Modi’s life and journey serve as a source of inspiration. His rise from a modest family background to the highest executive office in the country conveys a powerful message: that perseverance, determination and sustained effort can help turn ambitious dreams into reality. Such examples can encourage children to nurture their aspirations and equip themselves to pursue them with confidence.

This, indeed, is the spirit of the Seva Sankalp campaign: to reach out to people, understand their aspirations and strengthen the bond with them through service. Realising the vision of a Viksit Bharat under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership requires sustained efforts to extend access to education, skills, healthcare and employment opportunities to the remotest parts of the country. The time spent with children in Tarandul served as a reminder of a larger national responsibility: investing in the opportunities available to children today is essential to building a stronger India tomorrow.

In a state such as Chhattisgarh, endowed with abundant natural resources and a distinctive tribal cultural heritage, development must be understood in terms that go well beyond the construction of roads, buildings and other physical infrastructure. It must also mean ensuring better educational and healthcare facilities in remote villages, creating opportunities for young people, enabling women to become economically self-reliant and integrating rural households into the mainstream of development. Only when the benefits of progress reach the last mile can development acquire a truly inclusive character.

As Chhattisgarh looks towards the Assembly elections in 2028 and the Lok Sabha elections in 2029, sustained organisational engagement will remain important. However, our preparations must extend beyond electoral calculations. The long-term strength of any political organisation rests on its ability to earn public trust, communicate the benefits of government programmes, understand the challenges encountered in their implementation and maintain an enduring dialogue with different sections

of society.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public journey offers an important lesson in this regard: progress demands the will to keep moving forward, but lasting public confidence can be secured only by remaining connected with the people. The transformation unfolding in Bastar must therefore be viewed not merely as a change in the region’s circumstances, but as an opportunity to build a future in which peace, education, opportunity and inclusive development become the foundations of lasting progress.
