Tata Power Delhi Distribution is aggressively using technology interventions to track theft of power in its area of distribution in North and North-West Delhi. The power theft is undesirably burdening the honest customers and TPDDl is using advanced technologies for unearthing power theft and booking the power thieves. Controlling power theft will be advantageous for the consumers by way of lower power tariff as well as reliable power supply. As the power thieves are progressively using advanced technologies that manipulate energy recording and display of meters through external means that generally do not leave any evidence of theft, TPDDl is using technologies like smart metering, accurate energy auditing and continuously updating meter specifications so as to make the system foolproof as much as possible. TPDDl has installed AMR (Automated Meter Reading) based energy systems at Distribution Transformers (DT) level and undertaken four levels of Energy Audits of all Distribution Transformers on a regular basis. This helps in identification of areas in terms of energy mismatch and provides actionable inputs for enforcement teams. TPDDl undertakes four levels of Energy Audit for pin pointing areas with increased theft related issues and has set up a lab to analyse the effects of tampering on meters and works backward with manufacturers to make the meters tamper proof.
