Balraj Singh Khehra, the title-holder of MTV Roadies X4, tells Divyani Raghav how tough it was to fight his way through till the end after his wild card entry

For Balraj Singh Khehra ‘struggle’ is a negative word. It is perhaps this spirit that ultimately took him all the way through the tough ride at the Roadies X4. “Struggle is a negative word according to me as I rather learned from everything that happened,” said Khehra as he lifted the winner’s trophy.

Recalling his days on the show he said, “I did not have to fight as much as I enjoyed every moment. The season went by in the blink of an eye. I did not even realise when the journey ended.”

The most challenging task for him was the finale as it decided his fate. “Because winning it could bear me fruits and loosing it could depress me to a great extent,” says the winner from Karan Kundra’s team who believes that the show is the best platform for adventure seekers. “Because the show can be approached by anyone and it provides an opportunity to prove themselves without am ID of a celebrity,” he added.

like every other contender he, too, wanted to get his 50 seconds of fame through the show so that he could establish himself in the industry. He was determined to win the show right from the beginning. “Even then I believe that whatever happens in life, happens for a reason and that was got prevented me from breaking  down after preliminary eliminations,” he said.

His wildcard entry into the show was a huge throwback that motivated him and boosted his will power. He did not consider anyone to his level of competition and saw himself as his biggest competitor. “Roadies put a huge impact on viewers as it is a youth based show and the young generation carve the future of the nation,” he pointed out. “Politics was the need of the hour to survive and I have played good politics. Moreover, whatever I claimed on the show I did it”, he said and added that if one has the confidence one can conquer anything.

He even drew the difference in the pattern of the show in the way it is now presented. Earlier al contestants were directly under Raghu and Rajiv but since the last few seasons the format has changed. Team leaders have been appointed.

According to him, the concept and modus operandi of the team leaders is more appropriate and interesting for the present scenario and that has encouraged even the elderly to watch the show. He said, “Even if I were participating directly under Rajiv and Raghu, they would not have treated me like everyone else because I believe that it is up to every individual on how they uphold and protect their dignity  in front of people.”

His take on women empowerment is bit different from others as he believes in respecting a human being and not gender. But, “the positive side of promoting feminism in this season was increased participation of females,” he added.

We aksed his words of advice for future Roadies aspirants and pat came the reply, “Do not fake it and be presentable.”
