Dr Nirupama Parwanda has some useful home remedies to get rid of unwanted red spots on the face

While most women love to apply blush on their face for that tint, but red patches on face do not compliment the appearance. Even though the red spots are a big issue, they aren’t. Getting rid of them is an easy task with some really useful ways:

Diet — While the issue may seem to be on the surface, it is important to monitor what goes inside. Avoid eating spicy and junk food  if you wish to keep away from further inflammation.

Hydration — Try to keep your skin hydrated and use products that are moisturise naturally rather than the ones which use artificial ingredients. Certain oils like almond and olive are proven to do wonders for the skin.

Sun protection — Since the sun can cause a lot of damage to your skin, it is vital that you are friends with your sunscreen before you leave the house. Exposure to the sun and environmental pollutants can aggravate the condition.

Aloe vera gel — Using aloe vera gel every night before bedtime is a must as it keeps the skin cool and hydrated. It provides a protective layer to the skin and helps to retain moisture. Aloe is also rich in antioxidants and minerals which can help speed healing.

Cucumber — Rubbing a cucumber once or twice a week on your face can be very beneficial. It is considered to be the best home remedy to treat facial redness. The flesh of the cucumber is mostly water, but it also contains ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and caffeic acid, both of which help to soothe skin irritations and reduce swelling. These acids prevent water retention, which may explain why cucumbers applied topically are often helpful for swollen eyes, burns and dermatitis.

Cold compress — Using ice can help to reduce swelling and the redness of pimples. It also soothes irritated skin. The cold helps to reduce inflammation that has clogged the pores and helps enables topical creams to reach the bacteria inside the pores.

Oat face mask — While oatmeal alone does not moisturise your skin, it is a beneficial component in a moisturising face mask. Oatmeal is a humectant, which means that it helps your skin retain moisture. When used in conjunction with skin-hydrating ingredients, it helps your skin take on a glowing, dewy appearance. Mix pulverised oats with some water to make a thick paste and apply the mixture on your face for at least 20 minutes before washing it off with cold water. This helps in treating any kind of redness.

Correct skin products — Knowing your skin type is important before you plan to try any skin care product. It should be the first step of your skin care routine. That’s because not every skin care idea or product will suit your skin. Try to avoid trial and error method with the beauty products. Sticking on to the products which you know will suit your skin type is very essential. Try not to use heavy makeup every day.

Green Tea — Whether you are sipping a cup of  green tea or applying it to your face, you can be assured that both will help you get rid of bacterial infection and inflammation. Green tea fights skin cancer by promoting DNA repair. It contains a powerful antioxidant called EGCG that fights DNA damage from UV rays to prevent skin cancer. The catechins in green tea  help reduce irritation, redness, and swelling.
