After Mumbai, India Bridal Fashion Week forays into the Delhi market, followed by london in 2014. Its Managing Director Vijay Singh talks to Karan Bhardwaj about investments, expansion plans and why there is need to create more platforms for couture
After a dry spell of almost three months now get ready for an overdose in fashion. Next week onwards, the city will witness back to back fashion events. Tarun Tahiliani will host his annual couture exposition from July 18-20. This will be followed by Aamby Valley India Fashion Week’s foray into the Delhi market. The event will take place from July 23-28. After a day’s gap, FDCI’s couture week begins from July 31 to August 4. However, Vijay Singh, Managing Director of Aamby Valley India Fashion Week, sees no threat and competition in Delhi market.
According to him, every fashion creates awareness. “We have been doing fashion week in Mumbai for three years. We wanted to position ourselves there initially and then planned our entry in the Capital,” he said. Singh also shared expansion plans. “After Delhi, we plan to venture in london in 2014. For the first time, Indian entrepreneurs will stage India’s international fashion week in london. For that, we are getting 10 designers on board. I cannot divulge more details about it since we are at nascent stage,” he said adding that it’s high time India leads the fashion sector abroad also. “Every big designer is a brand in itself and they have their own market in foreign shores. There is big craze of Indian designers among NRIs,” said Singh.
He also shared the investments details. “We are making a grand entry. Something of this stature needs over Rs10 crore. We will stage high-tech sets, choreographed shows,” he added.
