Shruti Haasan talks to TRISHNA DAS about her latest movie, working with her father and future projects
You had to put on weight for your latest movie Behen Hogi Teri...
You need to eat a lot to gain weight. Once the reason for putting on weight is over, you work out to lose it. It’s that simple.
What is your role in the movieIJ
I play a small town girl — Binny — from lucknow. She is a lovely mix of character. She is not just one type of girl and that makes her interesting. In every movie you have to work hard to ensure that you bring in something new and fresh.
Experience of working with Rajkummar Rao.
It was wonderful. He is a very talented person and a totally committed actor. I enjoyed doing this movie, it was fun. We had a great time both off and on the sets.
What about doing an action thrillerIJ
I started my career with an action film. I want to try out new things and if there is anything interesting that comes up in this genre, I will definitely take it up.
You did a movie with your father. How strict was he with you on and off the setsIJ
He is not strict at all. He is not your usual teacher. He respects the fact that I have been working in the industry for nine years now. I enjoyed working with him since I get to learn so much when we are together.
Do you take advice from him before signing a filmIJ
To be honest, I take my own decisions. Of course, there are times when I go to him for some discussion but at the end of the day, it is my decision.
All the members of your family are from the film industry. What is the conversation on the dinner table likeIJ
We ensure that we don’t talk about films or our careers at home. We have normal run-of-the-mill conversations that other people have in their homes when they sit together.
What are the other projects you haveIJ
I have been working for Shabbash Naidu with my father and there is some post production work left on Yaara. I am in no hurry right now to take on more work. I want to take my time.
You’ve done a movie with your father. What about working with your sister Akshara in BollywoodIJ
I hope somebody comes up with a script in which both of us can participate. I would love to work with her.
How different are the movies in Tamil and BollywoodIJ
You can’t differentiate geographically. The people are more concerned about how to get to work as a unit. It has nothing to do with Tamil cinema or Bollywood.
How do you choose your endorsementsIJ
I will never endorse alcohol or tobacco because its bad for health. I am against endorsing fairness creams too. The products I do endorse are the ones I use myself. Philips light is a very popular brand. And the company is very sensitive to their consumer needs.
