Chappell could be Sl’s next coach

Colombo: Sri lanka Cricket (SlC) may end up appointing former Australian captain Greg Chappell as its new chief coach. The SlC sources said the deadline for the selection had been extended until the end of this month with scales weighing highly in favour of Chappell, who was arguably the world’s best bastman in the mid 70s. Chappell, of course, had a troublesome stint with India resulting in his exit after a disastrous 2007 World Cup campaign. His differences with some of the senior Indian players including former skipper Sourav Ganguly was known to everyone. Besides Chappell, two more Australians, Shane Duff and little known Michael O’Sullivan are among the short list of candidates.

Court reserves order on Munde

Mumbai: A civil court on Saturday reserved its order till Monday on a suit filed by senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde challenging rejection of his nomination to contest for the president’s post at the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) polls. Judge M S Sharma of the Bombay City Civil Court today heard the arguments of counsels appearing for Munde, MCA and Sharad Pawar and is likely to pass the order on Monday. Arguing for Munde, his lawyers Niranjan Bhadang and Vivekanand Gupta raised the point of residential status of Pawar who was elected unopposed as MCA president in the biennial polls held on Friday.”The lok Shaba’s website, till the time MCA election took place, showed Pawar’s address as Baramati and previously between 2001 and 2011 when Pawar was the president of MCA, he was having the election card showing Baramati as his address”, they argued.

End of ODI road for YounisIJ

Karachi: The one-day career of senior batsman Younis Khan appears to be over with Pakistan’s national selection committee ignoring him for the five-match series against South Africa in the United Arab Emirates. The 16-member squad announced today for the series in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah also does not include seniors like Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal who have been ignored by the selectors since after the ICC Champions Trophy in England this year. Younis, one of Pakistan’s most prolific batsmen, has also not been considered for one-day matches since he last played in the series in South Africa early this year.
