This one comes on the similar lines as Conjuring — based on real life incident that Ralph Sarchie, a New York cop comes across when he is pulled into a case. The film is based on a 2001 non-fiction book titled Beware the Night by Ralph Sarchie and lisa Collier Cool.

Over the years, Hollywood has made many movies on possession and exorcism. But what makes this one a little more frightening is the fact that it is based on true events that transpired in the 20th century. While it is difficult for people with a scientific bent of mind of believe that a person can be possessed by the devil and do evil things, those who experience it have a tale to tell and hence — Deliver Us From Evil.

Though director Scott Derrickson has tried to take the audience on a roller-coaster ride with a few scary and squeal moments, a major part of the movie is a straight line with no ups and downs negating the fright quotient that are few and far between. The only hellish or should one say gory part of the film comes at the climax with exorcism.

The full 10-15 minute exercise is fraught with blood, screams, glass flying, body stretching at an unbelievable angle and everything else that one would imagine the evil to be.

However, the movie does have a thrill value that keeps one interested from the word go. But having said this, one wonders how much facts have actually been shown in the movie. In the end , one is jostled a few times but the scare moments don’t stay with you for long.
