A vigilance team arrived from Ranchi arrested the Officer-In-Charge of Hazaribagh town outpost no.3 police station situated at Amritnagar, Hazaribagh while taking bribe red-handed from an informer Sarfraz Alam of Shivpur, Barhi.

Sarfraz Alam had informed vigilance department that Officer-In-Charge Mahendra Kumar, a police officer of batch 1994, is demanding Rs25,000 to give back the papers of his tailor truck no. Nl 0Pl 5902. The vigilance department first enquired the matter and it found the complaint true.

As per instruction of vigilance officials Sarfraz Alam then started bargaining with the police officials and finally Mahendra Kumar agreed to give back the papers after getting Rs21000. They fixed the date of January 5 for the deal.

Today as per agreement Sarfraz Alam reached TOP no.3 at about 11:30 a.m. where officer-in-charge Mahendra Kumar was present. He handed over the amount to him and signaled the members of vigilance team. The vigilance team led by DSP Surendra Salkar immediately took the police officer in custody and seized the amount. In presence of other police officials his hand was washed which became red due to the chemical coated on the notes by the vigilance officials.

After making preliminary inquiry at Hazaribagh the vigilance team took him to Ranchi. Mahendra Kumar is a permanent resident of Palamau and it is expected that the vigilance team will also check his house.

Talking to newsmen Sarfraz Alam said that on December 28 his truck cum tailor was parked on roadside near Nagwa airstrip when a Scorpio no. JH 02l 9494 dashed with the tailor. Police team came and seized the papers of his truck. When the driver informed him about the incident he went to TOP no. 3 where the officer-in-charge demanded bribe. Without bribe he was not ready to give him the papers back so he contacted the vigilance department and as per their instruction talked and negotiated with the OIC.
