AN Ojha, the Vice Chancellor of the Nilamber Pitamber University took a stock of the situation in the scheduled tribe and general boys hostel on Friday. The two blocks ST and General are set up in one building located on the campus of the GlA College in Daltonganj.
The VC’s inspection was prompted in the wake of an incident in the hostel. On the night of July 16 a huge portion of the roof ceiling of room number 5 of ST block fell in which an inmate of the hostel had a providential escape. Munna Kumar an M Sc Maths student said ‘The inmate of room number 5 was out of the room seconds before when the patch of the ceiling came down’.
The VC has directed the hostel in charge, K Oraon to get the 4 inmates of the room number 5 shifted to other room.
Ojha said that the 4 inmates be adjusted in other safer rooms of this hostel. The VC told the inmates ‘Move out before it is too late as in the event of any injury coming to any of them, their reluctance to move out will be more
responsible’.
The VC has directed the professor in charge of the GlA College J G D Dubey and hostel in charge K Oraon to take up this issue with the district welfare officer. Oraon said the ST block of this hostel is under the care of the welfare department and hence it must step out to restore the ceiling of the roof.
However the VC has directed his one official Radha Raman Kishore the man who looks after the construction work/developmental work of the NP University to bring in a junior engineer to assay the damage and means of repairing it.
The hostel is in serious state of disrepair and needs urgent renovation.
The university expects this task to be undertaken by the welfare department as in the ST block the department takes care of the ST inmates of the hostel.
The hostel in charge Oraon said the welfare department gives assistance to ST inmates in this hostel.
