Under the banner of the Radical Youth and Students Helpline, a city-based social welfare organisation, the youth activists have threatened to lock college gate in protest against the removal of Jamshedpur Women's College principal Sumita Mukherjee.
Students opposed the decision of Kolhan University vice-chancellor, RPP Singh for suspending Das and Sumita Mukherjee, professor-in-charge of Jamshedpur Women's College and appointing SS Razi and Sujata Sinha without informing the members of the syndicate. The new appointments were made on February 20.
Student members under the group started an indefinite agitation on in front of the Jamshedpur Women's College. "We were assured that the vice chancellor will meet us by March 20 but the administration took no steps. Therefore this time we have started an indefinite agitation that will only last when the VC speaks to us," said Archana Singh, who is leading the agitation. The activists have also threatened to lock the college gates tomorrow that would make students suffer.
A group of 50 students under the banner demands an explanation about his decisions so far especially the removal of Sumita Mukherjee, principal of Jamshedpur Women's College without prior information. Singh along with others in the group has alleged that the university is trying to former principal Shukla Mahanty who is now the pro vice chancellor.
